Colton Haynes as Jackson in the first season finale of Teen Wolf! What becomes of his meeting with Derek? Fangs? Fur? Marriage? We'll find out next season!

Superboy #11!

Superboy #11 wraps up the 'Hollow Men' storyline, as well as the current Superboy comic series written by Jeff Lemire and drawn largely by Pier Gallo, who reunite for this issue.
When we left our heroes last issue, Tannarak had captured the Phantom Stranger and things looked dire for Superboy, Krypto, Psionic Lad, Lori Luthor, Simon Valentine, and the good folks of Smallville, but it seems that a few issues back the Stranger had given Superboy a useful totem which allows him to regain his freedom! Superboy and Krypto join in on the action!

Meanwhile, Lori and Simon are dealing with the Parasite and the Hollow Men themselves:
and, when the town of Smallville needs to be reawakened, the Stranger and Psionic Lad manage that feat, as we get our last glimpse of Martha Kent and Pete Ross in the current DC Universe:

With Tannarak defeated (but having disappeared, naturally), the Hollow Men buried, and the Parasite delivered to the authorities, the Phantom Stranger takes his leave and the gang gets to reflect for a moment:
And that's the last we'll see of Conner Kent, or at least this version of the character. In September Superboy will start with a new #1, written by Scott Lobdell, who will also be writing the character in the Teen Titans. Lobdell has said that the new Superboy will still be the current guy, but that's hardly likely. I assume he means that the new guy will be a continuation of the clone first introduced when Superman supposedly died, who had no name other than Superboy, and whose only power was something called Tactile Telekinesis. That version had a large fanbase, and I liked him as well. But when he was taken in by the Kents, and Superman gave him the Kryptonian name Kon-El and the Earth name Conner Kent, as well as the genetic background of being half Superman DNA and half Lex Luthor, the character really took off for me (not to mention that he started to be drawn as a young adult!), allowing him to grow up before our eyes in a way that we never got to see happen with Clark, but with the added benefit of not having a preset course for his life. Conner didn't have a Lois whom he was destined to marry. There wasn't any guarantee that he would ever become 'Superman'. He didn't have to become a reporter. He didn't even have to leave the farm if he didn't wish to. The plan for Superman come September, however, doesn't include Clark's adoptive parents living into his adulthood, so Smallville part of Superboy's life will not have occurred, whatever else Lobdell may wish to keep intact. I, for one, will miss Conner, and appreciated Lemire and Gallo's contributions to his story. Their last panel with the gang:
(Just as an aside, the group that is holding the clone Superboy in the new series has the acronym 'N.O.W.H.E.R.E'. I wonder if Jeff is alluding to that development in Conner's final thought?)
